Physical Education
At Summerseat Methodist Primary School we greatly value the role that Physical Education plays within our curriculum. Our sporting ethos in underpinned by sporting values which we believe supports our pupils in striving to do their best and achieving sporting success when experiencing both school sport and competitions. We develop the fundamentals of physical literacy through our bespoke curriculum and have a range of inclusive competition opportunities which involves both intra and inter school competition, and promotes health and wellbeing through a commitment to physical activity.
All of our pupils receive 2 hours of high quality PE teaching per week. An hour of this teaching is led by their class teacher and the second hour is taught by an external Sports Coach. An overview of how we teach our carefully planned and structured PE Curriculum can be found on our ‘Whole School Long Term Overview’ document below. Alongside this you will find our 'PE Steps in Learning' document that outlines the clear progression in knowledge and skills which are taught and built upon from year to year. These documents provide our teachers with a clear and concise overview which enables them to teach high quality, fun and engaging P.E. lessons which up skill and develop our pupils.
